Favorite aspect of Westmont: I love the balance between preservation and innovation at Westmont. I enjoy looking at Kerrwood Hall and its surroundings, for example, to see the estate as it might have been in the 1930s and 40s. With new construction, Westmont places a priority on retaining as much of the natural beauty of the place as possible.
My favorite Westmont memory: What an unfair question to ask, as I have so many memories that are worthwhile and highly ranked on my list. If I have to choose one it would have to be from my Philosophical Perspectives class with Prof. Chris Hoeckley. This course is responsible for shifting my thought process in a way that is more broad and explorative. I experienced many conversations that fostered meticulous thinking practices that I still incorporate in my beliefs and decision making to this day. Another favorable memory was when my roommate and I participated in Spring Sing. We started out as volunteers (back up dancers) and ended up being main characters in the skit. Talk about new experiences!
My favorite place on campus: My favorite place would have to be my “oval office”—Thorrington Field. It has the full package. Its views of stunning sunrises and sunsets are very consistent here. As a member of the men's varsity track and field team, I’d catch a picture in the sky that was so rich in color and blend, you’d forget you were originally working out. Thorrington is also a great place for stargazing with its lack of night lights on the field!
Why do I work at Westmont?: The same reason I decided to attend here as a student: I felt a sense of belonging and community. I work in admissions because I saw an opportunity to give back to a community that poured into my personal development for four years. I know that there are upcoming students who are in my shoes and have a lot of questions about this next step in their life. I want to assist and serve them. I think about all that I experienced as a student at Westmont, and I want them to have just as impactful a college experience.
Hobbies: In my spare time I really enjoy making music with friends. I love creating different styles of music ranging from R&B, hip hop, alternative, and more. When I am not sitting in front of my MacBook cooking up a fiery beat, I really enjoy running with my year-old German Shepherd named King David Harper Jr. II. I like to be active, and will either go for runs or play basketball in the mornings before I start my workday.
